The base of our earthquake catalogue is the National Seismic Hazard Mapping Project declustered catalogue39. All events greater than estimated Mw4.0 are retained, as are more recent (since 1980) events of Mw3.0 or greater. Finally, we remove events spatiotemporally associated with wastewater injection39, but we do display moment tensor principal stress axes from induced events. Moment tensors were taken from ‘earthquakes.usgs.gov/search'. For clarity, not all ∼350 moment tensors in northcentral Oklahoma and southcentral Kansas are included. In this area, we plot optimal horizontal principal tension directions from stress inversions of spatial groups of moment tensors.
