In order to validate and test the clustering performance of the model (Fig. (Fig.1b-d,1b-d, Fig. Fig.2,2, Fig. S1, S2, S3 and Table S1), we generated a simulated dataset with two genes and two cell-types (clusters) as the “ground truth.” To set up the simulation, we chose π = {0.4,0.6}, qg,k,0 = 0.2, qg,k,1 = 0.8, and βg,k,1 = 1.0; first cluster α0,0,1 = 10 and α1,0,1 = 5; second cluster α0,1,1 = 30 and α1,1,1 = 20.
