Intestinal sections were fixed in 10% buffered formalin at room temperature for 48 hours and then embedded in paraffin. Tissues were sectioned at 4 μm thickness, and IEC death was detected by TUNEL assay using the In Situ Cell Death Detection Kit, Fluorescein (Roche) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
