Six-week-old male Balb/c nu/nu-specific and opportunistic pathogen-tree (SOPF) mice (Janvier Labs, Le Genest-Saint-Isle, France) were housed in individually ventilated cages, with four mice per cage. Upon arrival, the mice were acclimated for 1 week with access to food and water ad libitum. Mice were subcutaneously inoculated on the right shoulder with NCI-H69 cells (5 × 106 cells suspended in 100 μL of 1/3 Matrigel (Corning Inc.; Corning, NY, USA) and 2/3 Hank’s balanced salt solution (Gibco; Paisley, UK). NCI-H69 xenografts were allowed to grow for 3 weeks. Tumor sizes were 391 ± 173 mm3 at the start of the studies.
