Thirty-two adult male Sprague Dawley rats approximately weighing 200–220 g were obtained from the Laboratory Animal Colony of Helwan (Cairo, Egypt). The animals were housed for two weeks for acclimatization with regular 12/12 h light/dark cycles, in a constant room temperature of 25 ± 2 °C, and a relative humidity of 55 ± 5%. They were also kept with free access to tap water ad libitum, and low salt diet pellets (Raw Bright International Company, Shebin EL Kom, Menoufia, Egypt). A low-salt diet was used to increase TAC nephropathy [15].
