Mice (3 males, 3 females per treatment group) were anesthetized with isoflurane and subcutaneously injected with 1000 nmol/Kg of the P10, ELP, ELP-P10, or vehicle-treated 1 h prior to infection. One-hour post-treatment, mice were infected intraperitoneally with 1 × 106 PFU of MCMV K181. Animals were treated with the same dose of peptides every 24 h, and their weight was monitored. Three days post-infection, animals were euthanized, and the liver, kidneys, spleen, heart were harvested and stored at − 80 °C. Virus titers in harvested organs were determined by plaque assay.
