Approximately 1 × 106 of cells were suspended in a 0.2 mL mixture of 50% PBS and 50% Matrigel Matrix (Corning Life Sciences, Massachusetts) and subcutaneously injected into the flanks of 5 NCI Athymic NCr‐nu/nu mice (obtained from Charles River Frederick Research Model Facility) to evaluate the tumorigenic potential. All animal care protocols used had been approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and were in accordance with National Cancer Institute guidelines.
