Lumbar spinal cord samples were fixed and embedded in paraffin. Immunohistochemical analysis was conducted, as previously described [50]. Sections were incubated overnight with: anti-glial fibrillary acidic protein GFAP (sc-33673) or anti-iba-1 (sc-3272). All sections were washed with PBS and then treated, as previously reported [51,52]. Stained sections were observed using a Leica DM6 microscope (Leica Microsystems SpA, Milan, Italy) following a typical procedure [53].
