Triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) reduction assays were performed as described previously31. Ten microliter of overnight culture was spotted onto 1.2× YESCA agar containing 0.001% (w/v) TTC. After 24 h of growth, colonies were imaged using an Epson digital scanner. Images were subjected to automatic thresholding to subtract background, and TTC reduction was quantified by measuring pixel intensity on imageJ. Colony area was determined on Adobe Photoshop.
