Both Lactobacillus paracasei GKS6 (BCRC 910788) and Bifidobacterium lactis GKK2 (BCRC 910826) were isolated from healthy Taiwanese infant feces. The bacteria strains were, respectively, cultured at 37°C and pH 6.0 under anaerobic conditions for 16 h with the following medium: 5% glucose, 2% yeast extract, 0.05% MgSO4, 0.1% K2HPO4, and 0.1% Tween-80. For harvesting, the fermented bacteria were centrifuged and mixed with protectant and then freeze-dried at 25°C for 48 hours. The live bacteria were counted by plate counting.
