One hundred twenty nine very preterm infants of gestational age (GA) ≤ 28 weeks that were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Hunan children's hospital between January 2012 and November 2014 were assessed for brain maturation and brain injury through cUS and MRI, and followed up till January 2017. The study was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of Hunan Children's Hospital, and informed consent was obtained from the parents. The exclusion criteria included congenital anomalies of the central nervous system, other severe congenital anomalies, chromosomal and metabolic disorders, and neonatal meningitis.
