The collection of putative lytic enzymes and their constituent domains starts with proteins that are already annotated with GO [75,76] terms associated with peptidoglycan binding and catalysis, e.g., “peptidoglycan binding”, “peptidoglycan endopeptidase activity”, and “peptidoglycan muralytic activity”. The current terms are provided in S2 Table. All identified sequences and their metadata are stored in the LEDGOs database. The sequences are clustered to 90% identity using CD-HIT [77], with the cluster representatives then serving as the seeds.
