The relationship between the size of the colonies and the distance from the colony to the centre of the plate was investigated. The distance from the centre of the agar plate to the colony (Dj) was calculated according to the following formula (Eq. 1).

Here, xj and yj represent the X and Y coordinates of colony j on the plate i; ai and bi indicate the coordinates of the centre point of the plate i. The coordinates of both the colonies on the plate and the centre of the plate were acquired from the imaging analysis described above.
