Data collection tools were developed by reviewing literature in the field. The tools measured socio-demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, behavioral and psychological characteristics. The psychological distress tool was adopted from the Kessler-10 scale27 which has been validated in Ethiopia.15,25 Data was collected using interviewer administered questionnaires. Data collectors were nurses working in the ART clinic. The client exit interviews were conducted in a separate quiet room.
