The amino acid sequences of CO and COL proteins from Arabidopsis, soybean, Medicago, mungbean, rice, and maize were aligned using ClustalW2 (Oliver et al., 2005), and the resulting alignment was used to construct a phylogenetic tree in MEGA 7.0 using the neighbor-joining method with default parameters (Kumar et al., 2016). In addition, VrBBX proteins were aligned separately in ClustalW2 and used to construct a phylogenetic tree in MEGA 7.0 with the neighbor-joining method.
