To evaluate the inhibitory potential of the small molecules on P. falciparum growth, early trophozoite stage synchronized culture of the parasite at a parasitemia of 1% and 2% hematocrit was aliquoted in 96-well plates (Nunc,Thermo, USA) and treated with different concentrations of the molecules 8, 9, and 10 (100 nM–20 µM) for 48 h. Following incubation, Giemsa-stained blood smears were observed to assess the parasitemia. Controls include untreated and DMSO-treated cultures. IC50 was determined by graph pad prism 6.0 (CA, USA). Percent inhibition of P. falciparum growth was determined as follows:

Percent Inhibition = (1 − Percent parasitemia of treatment/ Percent parasitemia of Control) ∗ 100.
