Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 21.0 (SPSS Inc.). All results were scored while blinded to genotype before quantification. Continuous variables are represented as mean ± SD, and were analyzed with unpaired or paired t tests or 1-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test, as appropriate. We also evaluated the risk factors of leukoaraiosis by performing binary logistic regression analysis. Multivariable analysis was further adjusted for variables with P less than 0.1 in univariate analysis. Variable selection was carried out by a random-forest model based on the presence/absence of leukoaraiosis (R statistical environment, version 3.5.1). Statistical significance was established at P less than 0.05.
