Data obtained from control and treated groups were expressed as mean ± S.D. and compared using the unpaired t test or one-way ANOVA as applicable. All differences were judged to be significant at the level of P < 0.05. Sample sizes were determined assuming S.D. equal to 20% of the mean of the control group and a 30% change of the mean in experimental groups with power = 0.8–0.9, α = 0.05, and β = 0.20. Flow cytometry data were repeated in triplicate.
