Chemical carcinogenesis and TPA-induced inflammation

Shaved dorsal back skin of 8- to 10-week-old mice was subjected to a single treatment of topical DMBA (100 μg) for tumor initiation and semiweekly treatment of topical TPA (10 μg) for 20 weeks for tumor promotion (18). The first treatment with TPA was 1 week after DMBA exposure. To induce acute skin inflammation, shaved dorsal back skin was treated with TPA (10 μg) daily for 2 consecutive days; inflamed skin was analyzed 2 days later.
