Male and female mice on the C57BL/6J background were used for EAE experiments. B6.Cg-Tg(Plp1-cre/ERT)3Pop/J (referred to as PLPcreER; 005975, the Jackson laboratory) mice were crossed with Gria4tm1Mony mice (18) on a C57BL/6 background provided by H. Monyer at Heidelberg University (referred to as GluA4). For cre-driven expression of the red fluorescent protein tdTomato, mice were bred with B6;129S6-Gt(ROSA)26Sortm14(CAG-tdTomato)Hze/J mice (referred to as tdTomato; 007908, the Jackson laboratory). EAE was performed on 8- to 10-week-old PLPcreER mice. Littermate controls were used for all experiments. Animals were housed and treated in accordance with National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee guidelines of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Cleveland Clinic.
