A high-quality pellet of La1.875Ba0.125CuO4 was grown by the floating zone method and cut into smaller single crystals (30). The crystals were cleaved in air to expose a fresh surface, mainly oriented along the ab plane. The 2-mm-sized single crystal used in this study was preoriented using a laboratory-based CuKα x-ray source. The lattice parameters were determined to be a = b = 3.787 Å and c = 13.23 Å. The surface miscut with respect to the ab crystalline plane was found to be 21°. The superconducting Tc of the sample was verified through a SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) magnetometry measurement to be approximately 5 K.
