A mixture containing BVIm-BF4 (0.223 g, 1.0 mmol) and 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) (8.7 mg, 0.05 mmol) was stirred in dried dimethyl formamide (DMF) at 60°C for 24 hours. The resultant raw product was purified by precipitating into dichloromethane three times to remove unreacted BVIm-BF4 and then dried in a vacuum oven at 60°C for 12 hours. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) (ppm): 9.5 (s, 1H, N─CH═N), 7.8 (d, 1H, CH─CH═N), 4.1 (m, 2H, N─CH2─CH2), 1.7 (m, 2H, CH2─CH2─CH2), 1.3 (m, 2H, CH2─CH2─CH2), 0.7 (m, 3H, CH2─CH3) (fig.
