Metal-binding titrations of MMOD and copper were performed in quartz cuvettes using a UV-visible spectrophotometer (Cary 60, Agilent, USA). The optical spectra of MMOD (10 μM) were measured by titration of 1.0 equimolar concentrations of CuCl2·(H2O)2 (Sigma-Aldrich, 99.999%) in 750-μl buffer (25 mM sodium phosphate at pH 7.0).
