Wild-type (WT) C57BL/6 and CD45.1 (B6.SJL-Ptprca Pepcb/BoyJ) mice were purchased from the Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME) and were housed under specific pathogen–free conditions at the animal facility of Ben-Gurion University. WT C57BL/6 mice were kept in different age batches from 2 to 24 months. All mice were checked for any macroscopic abnormalities (according to the Jackson guide—“AGED C57BL/6J MICE FOR RESEARCH STUDIES”). Animals with skin lesions, organ-specific problems, or behavioral issues were discarded from the study. All surgical and experimental procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use committee of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.
