A solar simulator (94043A, Newport) equipped with an optical filter for the standard AM 1.5G spectrum was used as the illuminant for all indoor experiments of solar desalination and wastewater treatment. During these experiments, the indoor temperature and humidity were carefully controlled to 27 to 28°C and ~30%, respectively. The mass change of water, later used for determining the evaporation rate together with the efficiency, was measured in real-time by a high-accuracy balance (FA 2004, 0.1 mg in accuracy).
