MCF-7 cells (human breast cancer cell line) were purchased from the American Type Culture Collection (Manassas, VA) and maintained in low-glucose Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium with 10% FBS and 1% antibiotic [penicillin (100 U/ml) and streptomycin (100 μg/ml)]. The cells were cultured in a water-jacketed CO2 incubator (Forma Series II 3110, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., USA) providing a humidified atmosphere with 5% CO2 at 37°C.
