Serum creatinine, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and albumin levels were measured using an automatic biochemical analyzer (Roche, Germany). Kidney hydroxyproline levels were measured using a commercial kit according to the manufacturer’s instructions (Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute, Jiangsu, China). A550 (absorbance at 550 nm) was determined using a microplate reader (BioTek, USA).
