Suspensions of liposomes were prepared by sonication of lipid films for 30 min in ultrapure water. All liposome samples contained a final concentration of ~5% lipid by weight. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments were performed in duplicate using a Thermal Analysis Q2000 DSC. Each experiment involved a 1°C/min ramp from 0° to 80°C under dry helium at 50 ml/min. TA Universal Analysis was used to extract the Tm for these samples. DSC experiments revealed that all three lipids do not undergo a phase transition in the temperature range of 0° to 80°C (fig. S1F).
