Bacterial lawn avoidance assays were performed as described (10). Briefly, small lawns of P. aeruginosa PA14 were cultured on 3.5-cm NGM plates at 37°C overnight. Twenty young adult animals grown on E. coli OP50 were transferred to the center of each bacterial lawn. The number of animals on the bacterial lawns was counted at 4, 8, 12, 24, and 48 hours after exposure.
