Local ancestry deconvolution of the modern individuals was carried out using RFMix (47) and a panel of four reference populations: European (French), East Asian (Han), Oceanian (Papuan), and Australian (WCD). Before this analysis, we subsampled each reference population to the number of individuals observed in the smallest population (WCD; 12 individuals) to avoid potential bias due to unbalanced panel sizes. A “masked” dataset was then obtained by restricting the analysis to SNPs for individuals who were homozygous for Australian ancestry (WCD).
