One gram of supported catalyst was prepared by stirring Co(OAc)2·4H2O (126.8 mg, 0.51 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) and chitosan (164.4 mg, 1.02 mmol, 2.0 equiv.) in 80 ml of ethanol at 65°C for 18 hours. Afterward, inorganic support (708.8 mg) was added and the mixture was stirred for 2 hours. The solvent was removed at the rotary evaporator and the residue was dried overnight at 65°C by applying high vacuum. The dried sample was ground in an agate mortar, pyrolized at temperatures between 700° and 1000°C, and ground again in an agate mortar. The catalyst was stored in glass vials in the air without special protection. The catalysts were labeled as Co/Chitosan@support-temperature (for example, Co/Chitosan@BN-1000).
