The human colon adenocarcinoma cells, Caco-2 cells, at passage 25, were supplied by the Cell Culture Center of Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College (Beijing, China). The cells were cultured in DMEM medium with 100 U/mL penicillin, 100 mg/mL streptomycin, 1% nonessential amino acids, and 10% FBS at 37 °C in a humidified atmosphere containing 5% CO2, and sub-cultivated every 2 days at 80–90% confluence and digested with trypsin-EDTA at a split ratio of 1:3.
